Godzirra Space Roll

History was made on January 1, 2012 when a small restaurant sushi chain sent the first, wait for it.. sushi roll into space.  Sticky Rice sent their popular roll, Godzirra into space as a unique marketing experience to celebrate the new year.

This was shot for a small chain of restaurants called Sticky Rice. They have a long history of doing marketing their own way and we knew they would love this idea.

In collaboration with RVA TV and Bark Marketing, Sticky Rice launched a sushi plate of their popular Godzirra roll on January 1st of this year. Six months of planning and testing went into this project as a lot of variables were at play: -60F in space, FAA regulations, overheating or freezing batteries, GPS issues, stabilization, and how to make the damn sushi stay together in high winds.

Our team is hoping for national attention and plan to make a shorter commercial for local air play. We loved the Toshiba ‘Chair in Space’ commercial and it was the basis of this project wondering if it could happen on a shoe-string budget for a small business.

Your Bag’s Journey On Delta

Delta in recent years gave their customer relations and marketing a face lift.  Knowing that there’s better choices and even more displeased customers due to delays, body scanners and the rising cost of everything, Delta has set out to make their airlines more personable and to connect with their audience.  A clever video by Delta to make customers aware of their new mobile app, which you can also track your bag’s journey.  Not entirely sure why I would want to do that.  If I’m on the flight, I’m sure my bag would be on the same route as me.  Right?  Unless the baggage handlers intentionally misplace my bags so I can get the exciting experience of having my bags misplaced?  Listen Delta, just offer the free one bag check-in again.  We don’t need to track our bags on a flight where we can’t turn on data so we’re forced to purchase wifi to track a bag that should be right under the plane I’m on.

But still awesome video!  Even though the baggage handers must have been instructed by TSA + Delta to be on their best behavior.  Here’s the app if you still want it.

United State of Pop 2011 (World Go Boom)

It wouldn’t be a wrap up to the year without DJ Earworm’s annual mashups: “United State of Pop”.  This year’s themes in songs, Boom.  Looks like Katy Perry had a good year, 3 songs made it to the list.  Download the free MP3 here.  Also don’t forget to check out his Facebook and Twitter.

It doesn’t match Billboard’s U.S. year-end list, since I’m basing it off of the weekly lists this year in order to more reflect what was actually popular during 2011. Because of the Billboard’s early cut off date and their emphasis on chart longevity, songs that are released after August are either split between the two years or moved to the next year. I also don’t want a track appearing two years in a row just because it happened to be peaking right at the cutoff. From my perspective, a song for a year-end mix belongs in the year it will be remembered from, not the year it ended its run. For instance, “We Found Love”, which has been #1 for the last 8 weeks of the year, is nowhere to be seen in Billboard’s Top 25, and may not make it next year either due to the bias of the cut-off date. As a bonus I am able to spend more time on the mixes and more fully realize them.

Songs in this mashup:
Adele – Rolling In The Deep
Adele – Someone Like You
Black Eyed Peas – Just Can’t Get Enough
Bruno Mars – Grenade Continue Reading →

FROZEN IN TIME

What would you do if you had a watch that can freeze time?

Our creative minds here at Element X Creative were pretty stoked about The Association of Independent Commercial Producers (AICP) asking us to create this year’s Sponsor Reel for the Southwest show. The creative carte blanche was daunting given such a small window of time to concept and produce a 5 minute piece. It was even more challenging considering our own expectations were set high, not only in terms of storytelling, but wanting to create something that had not been done in the history of the show.

After hours and hours of brainstorming concepts, we found an idea involving trains and miniatures that the whole studio could rally behind. Every individual under our roof came together to write, storyboard, model, texture, shoot, rig, animate, composite, and edit the final product. Many late nights and take-out orders later, combined with a music and sound effects mix from Tequila Mockingbird, the end video was stunning to behold.

So take a peek at our latest and greatest! We hope you have as much fun watching it as our hero Jack had while running around in the tiny world we created for him.
